Why Your Amazon Listing Is Suppressed or Inactive, and How to Fix It

Pexeta Team · 17 October 2026 · 6 min read

Few things hurt an Amazon business as quietly as a suppressed listing. The product page may still exist, but shoppers can't find or buy it, and unless you check Seller Central daily, you may not notice for days.

Where to find listing problems

  • In Inventory → Manage All Inventory, filter by status for Inactive and Search suppressed.
  • Check the Fix your products or listing quality section, which flags missing or invalid information.
  • Watch Account Health for listing policy violations, which can deactivate ASINs.

The most common causes and their fixes

CauseFix
Main image not compliantUse a pure white background, product filling most of the frame, no text, logos or watermarks
Title too long or with banned charactersFollow the category's title length rules; remove promotional words and special characters
Missing required attributesFill in category-required fields such as brand, size, colour, material or HSN
Price far above recent pricesAmazon may suppress offers it sees as unfairly priced; review your price against your history
Out of stockReplenish inventory or correct quantity; check FBA inbound shipments
Restricted or policy-flagged keywordsRemove medical, pesticide or other restricted claims from the listing

Search suppressed vs inactive

A search-suppressed listing is live but hidden from search results, usually because of a content issue: the image, title or a missing attribute. An inactive listing can't be bought at all, typically because of stock, pricing, a policy flag or a closed listing. Fix search suppression in the listing content; fix inactive listings at the cause shown in the status details.

Prevent it from happening again

  1. Check inventory status filters every day, or automate an alert.
  2. Keep a listing checklist for every new ASIN: images, title, bullets, attributes and keywords.
  3. Avoid bulk changes from flat files without checking a sample first. A wrong column can suppress hundreds of listings.
  4. Review listings after category template updates, which can add new required attributes.
A suppressed best-seller also loses ad spend: ads for unavailable products stop serving, and the momentum you've built in search can take time to recover.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a fixed listing to reappear?+

Often within hours, but it can take up to a day or two for search indexing to update after you fix the issue.

Why is my listing suppressed when nothing changed?+

Amazon updates category requirements and policies regularly, and other sellers or Amazon's catalogue can change shared product data. Check the status details for the specific reason.

Can price cause a listing to be suppressed?+

Yes. If Amazon considers your price significantly higher than recent prices for that product, it can suppress the offer or remove the Buy Box.
